Performance:
HDPE geomembrane is also known as high-density polyethylene geomembrane, HDPE Waterproof
geomembrane,and HDPE anti-seepage geomembrane. Its English name is "High Density Polyethylene
Impermeable Membrane", abbreviated as "HDPE geomembrane". It is a plastic roll material composed
of HDPE, which is a high crystallinity, non-polar thermoplastic resin. The appearance of HDPE in its
original state is milky white, with a certain degree of translucency on its thin cross-section.
Characteristics:
HDPE geomembrane has excellent impact resistance, which is why it works at room temperature and
even at low temperatures of -40F. HDPE is a non-toxic, odorless, and odorless white particle of polymer,
with a melting point of approximately 110 ºC -130 ºC and a relative density of 0.918-0.965; Has good heat
and cold resistance. Good chemical stability, high rigidity and toughness, good mechanical strength,
good resistance to environmental stress cracking and tear strength. As the density increases, the
mechanical and barrier properties will correspondingly improve, and the heat resistance and tensile
strength will also be higher; Can withstand corrosion from acids, alkalis, organic solvents, etc.
Engineering Application:
1. Environmental protection and sanitation (such as domestic waste landfills, sewage treatment plants,
power plant regulating ponds, underground foundation waterproofing and anti-seepage, factory roof
moisture-proof industries, hospital solid waste, etc.);
2. Water conservancy (such as seepage prevention, leakage stoppage and reinforcement of Rivers and
Lakes, reservoirs, dams, seepage prevention of canals, vertical core walls, slope protection, etc.);
3. Municipal engineering (underground engineering of highways, subways, buildings, planting roofs, anti-
seepage of roof gardens, lining of sewage pipes, etc.);
4. Gardens (roof gardens, artificial lakes, waterways, reservoirs, bottom lining and slope protection of golf
courses,waterproof and moisture-proof green lawns, etc.);
5. Petrochemical (anti-seepage of oil storage tanks in chemical plants, refineries, gas stations, lining of
chemical reaction tanks, sedimentation tanks, secondary lining, etc.);
6. Mining (washing pool, heap leaching pool, ash yard, dissolution pool, sedimentation tank, storage
yard, bottom lining anti-seepage of tailings, etc.);
7. Transportation facilities (foundation reinforcement of highways, anti-seepage of culverts);
8. Agriculture (reservoirs, drinking water tanks, storage ponds, anti-seepage of irrigation systems,
agricultural breeding such as pig farm septic tanks);
9. Aquaculture industry (aquaculture ponds, intensive and factory aquaculture ponds, lining of fish ponds,
shrimp ponds, sea cucumber enclosure slope protection, etc.);
10. Salt industry (salt crystallization tank, brine tank cover, salt geomembrane, salt tank plastic geomembrane).
Development History:
HDPE anti-seepage geomembrane was first applied in Germany in 1960, driving the use of it throughout
Europe. Then it spread to Africa, Australia, and North America. PVC anti-seepage geomembrane was
developed by the United States during the same period and quickly spread to Canada, the former Soviet
Union, Taiwan, and Europe. In the early 1980s, the United States and Germany benefited from the support
of government legislation for significant development.
Taking the sales of geomembranes in North America in 1995 as an example, HDPE accounted for about
40%, VFPE accounted for about 20%, and others (CSPE, FPP, etc.) accounted for about 15%. It can be
seen that HDPE anti-seepage geomembrane has accounted for about one-third of the total amount of
geotextile geomembrane.
HDPE anti-seepage geomembrane was introduced to China in 1992. After nearly 20 years of
development, it has been widely used in various anti-seepage projects, such as landfill sites, tailings
treatment, high-speed rail anti-skid layer, petrochemical and other industries.
Production process flow:
The production of HDPE geomembrane is now basically a geomembrane blowing process, which
uses high-density polyethylene as the main raw material, together with special plastic additives,
color masterbatch, anti-aging agent and other auxiliary materials, and is made by feeding, melting
and plasticizing, extrusion blow molding, traction, winding and other processes. The specific
production process is as follows:
1.High density polyethylene raw materials, special plastic additives, color masterbatch, anti-aging
agent, etc., are mixed and stirred with an electric plastic mixer;
2.Polyethylene raw materials are added to the plastic extruder hopper, and through the conveying,
compression, and metering functions of the rotating screw of the extruder, the material is melted
and plasticized, and the molten tube blank is extruded from a circular die;
3.Polyethylene raw materials enter the screw barrel of the plastic extruder, are heated, plasticized,
melted, and extruded into a film bubble, which is blown and expanded outside the machine head
mold;
4.After melting and sealing the outlet end of this tube blank, compressed air is blown into the vent
hole in the center of the mold. The tube blank gradually expands under the action of compressed
air, and at the same time, the outer part of the tube blank is forced to cool. At this time, force is
applied to one end of the tube blank melting and sealing to make it move forward at a uniform
speed, and a continuous cylindrical geomembrane can be obtained at this time;
5.Cut open the double-layer folded geomembrane from the middle and enter the membrane
spreading frame for single-sided unfolding;
6.The traction roller is equipped with an automatic meter recording device for automatic meter
recording and rewinding of the product;
7.During the production process, three samples are generally taken from each piece for random
inspection, and they are stored after passing the inspection.
